On March 16, Prep students began the process of requesting the courses they hope to take during the 2010-2011 school year. Between now and March 24, Guidance Counselors will distribute course selection materials and explain the process to freshmen and juniors during scheduled group guidance sessions. On Monday, March 22, sophomores will receive their course selection materials during a special homeroom session.
This year, we have posted the
Course of Studies Booklet on our website, under the Academics Page. Students and parents should refer to this document as they consider their options for next year.
In order to complete the course request process successfully, each student must do the following after he receives the forms from his guidance counselor:
- Bring the Instructions for Requesting Courses/Course Request Form home and go over each page carefully with his parents.
- Completely fill out the Course Request Form.
- Beginning Wednesday, March 24, at 3:00 pm, we will activate the PowerSchool online course request process. Students must complete the online course request process by logging on to PowerSchool using their personal ID and password, going to the Course Registration page, and entering the very same courses on PowerSchool as those they marked on the Course Request Form. Online registration will be open for six days. It will close at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, March 30.
- Return the signed Course Request Form to the main office by March 30, 2010.
Remember, there is a two-step process to request courses. Each student must complete the paper form and return it and he must enter his requests on PowerSchool. Doing one step and not the other means no requests will be recorded. Guidance counselor s will be available to respond to his questions or concerns. Ms. Durante will be available to answer students’ questions during the lunch periods.
After all course requests have been reviewed, counselors and teachers will make final recommendations. Students will receive their course lists for 2010-2011 in May.
Parents of freshmen: please read the following message from the modern language department:
If your son has had extensive and thorough experience with the study of French, German, Italian or Spanish in middle school, be sure to have him note it when he fills out the “Modern Language” section of the Course Request Form. Ms. Rosalie Romano, Chair of the Modern Languages Department, will be in touch with your son about the possibility of placing him in Level 2 of the language. For heritage speakers and those who had extensive exposure in middle school, please click here for a special letter from Ms. Ana Garcia, Modern Languages Department, describing the option of taking Spanish 1 Honors next year.
