Matt McDermott, '17 signed a National Letter of Intent this week to accept a baseball scholarship to the College of William and Mary. The infielder and team captain was joined by his parents as he signed his letter in the Shalloe Parlor.
On Tuesday, members of Prep Vox visited Hudson County Community College for a musical workshop and Q&A session with Catherine Walker, a rising Broadway star who has appeared in A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder and Mary Poppins.
Last week, at the Fiesta in Wood-Ridge, nearly 300 guests saluted seven athletes and one team as they joined the ranks of Prep's Athletic Hall of Fame. The inductees represented swimming (for the first time), soccer, baseball, basketball, and two eras of success for Prep Football. And in a larger sense, they represented the very finest of Prep's proud athletic tradition.
Tuesday marked the Feast of All Saints, and the Prep community gathered for Mass in the gym to celebrate the holy day of obligation. The feast calls us to reflect upon what it means to be a saint, and to hear our own calls to sainthood – not only in the sense of the familiar, canonical Saints, but also in our daily service to God and others.
Prep held its annual fall blood drive last week, organized by the Medical Club in partnership with the American Red Cross. Thanks to the generous participation of the Prep community, 41 pints of blood were collected, which will be used to help 123 patients in area hospitals.
